Metamorphosis #2

by Genevieve Leavold

Unique art|11.6 x 16.5 in

A series of graphite drawings made as an in response to the Kafka novella Metamorphosis and the biological, physical process.

“ As an artist I am fascinated by change and the transformation that each of us go through as we experience life, I explore this through my environment taking inspiration from worn and broken surfaces and the life which inhabits them”

Using a technique of building up and removing layers or graphite to create the final image. Each drawing in the Metamorphosis Series responds to an idea of the process of metamorphosis - a build up of energy or pressure, separation, characteristics which are lost and characteristics which remain. These drawings are all part of an ongoing body of work around transformative processes in nature and also in human psychology.

Genevieve Leavold

b.1980, UK. Multidisciplinary 2D artist, originally trained in theatre design. My work is continually evolving though it is grounded in a love of drawing, influenced by the explorative practice of Mira Schendel and the philosophy of Wittgenstein. I seek to explore the ephemeral, overlooked parts of my environment, documenting worn, overgrown or broken surfaces, recording the existence of decay and disintegration. I have exhibited extensively throughout the UK. I have work in private collections in the UK, US and Europe.

Love it. Hate it.
