Ryan Murray is a spray paint stencil artist from Springfield, Massachusetts. He received his Bachelor's of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University in 2014. Through the alias Rywando Jones, he grabs elements from pop culture, own photography, magazine collages, layers them in Photoshop, prints them, and hand-cut them until his wrist gets sore. The act of hand-cutting is both meditative and progressive: the more cuts performed, the more precise they become. Through this medium he explores social commentaries, in particular the stigma of mental health especially as it pertains to African-American communities. Autobiographical elements often work their way into his work, often literally, often symbolically, creating odd, surreal juxtapositions.
