Gothic American Sock Monkeys

by Randy Burns

Unique art|20 x 24 in

This sock monkey collection series is dedicated to my late sister, Felicia. She loved both art and the sock monkey toy.

Standing with pitchfork in hand, a sock monkey farmer seems to guard both his house and his wife who stares forward wearing a broach with a family member cameo. This sock monkey 'masterpiece' series is modeled after the works of great artists. This one, for example, is after 'American Gothic'. All of this series is honor of my sister who passed on. She loved the sock monkey and my art. I combined the two for her with love.

A lifelong painter, my works have been exhibited in various parts of the United States and Mexico. Always interested in the wonders light, mystery and the magic of God's creation, I enjoy sharing these visual interpretations as connections we all develop over time.

'Make visible, what without you, might never have been seen.' Robert Bresson

“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead —his eyes are closed. The insight into the mystery of life, coupled though it be with fear, has also given rise to religion. To know what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their most primitive forms—this knowledge, this feeling is at the center of true religiousness.” Albert Einstein.
